Standard Poodle Breeders Dogs Puppies For Sale Colebrook New Hampshire

Currently Available Puppies:

We do have puppies! Mostly girl puppies! For some odd reason litters have been predominately female all summer and fall. We have two blue girls from Celine, (an older gal) and Joey's accidental "change of life" litter, born July 8.

"Charlotte-too" and Benjamin have a cream/white "Lady", sweet and mellow, and her cream sister Trudy, born Aug 14.

Scarlet and Smiley have a small black female, and two cream girls, born 8-11. Scarlet also has an apricot male and a very small cream male who both need hernia repair in the near future.

Bindi-sue, (our sweet black lady from the Land Down Under) and Foster's babies are being vet checked on Nov 24th and will be ready after Nov 30th at 9 weeks of age. There is one dark apricot large male, one very small apricot/red male, (we call him Ernie), two black girls, one apricot girl, three cream girls.

For older pups, we have the silver-beige/brindle boy born May 8th and the blue brindle male born March 3rd, his sister, a blue/brindle on white parti girl, a quiet, shy blue "Darcy" daughter born Feb 8th and one last Silver girl out of a litter of 13, born 2-15. She is very social, happy, outgoing and a fun gal...

We also have a couple of retiring breeders to place in good, quiet, adult homes. Again, they will need companionship and need someone at home with time on their hands. Check our "Meet Our Dogs" page to view some of these wonderful adoptable adults! We love retired humans for retired poodles!!

About Our Standard Poodle Breeding Program

For more than 15 years, Crabapple Downs has been committed to breeding and raising beautiful, healthy Poodles for loving, responsible owners. All of our dogs are our babies! Poodles are our love, our avocation, our work and our recreation! Animals are not just a job - but a way of life. In addition to the daily demands of our kennel, boarding and grooming facility, we are very much involved in our local Humane Society, which is located in another building close to our kennel facilities.

Health Information About Our Standard Poodle Dogs & Puppies

As highly responsible breeders, we are very much against in-breeding and/or line-breeding, and try to outcross with dogs that are as unrelated to our dogs as possible. We feel that a diverse gene pool is crucial to the longevity and good health of our Poodles. Our Sires are all American Lines, while our Dams are outcrossed English-German lines. Our poodles are registered with the American Kennel Club, and we strive to produce dogs that exemplify the breed standard in health, temperament and conformation. We are also members of the Northern New Hampshire Pet Therapy Group, the North Country Humane Society and the NEADS Service Dog Program.

At Crabapple Downs, we believe strongly in diversity in the bloodlines of our Poodles to correct the in-breeding and line-breeding that has been done with the breed in the past. On the average, most American Standard Poodle lines reach as high as 25 percent inbreeding! This practice of breeding cousins to one another places the breed at risk for recessive genetic disorders including SA, Addisons' Disease and autoimmune disorders. All of our parents, even the American lines, have a low in-breeding coefficient percentage (COI), and we follow a very careful breeding program to achieve an even lower in-breeding coefficient percentage. COI's are computed on 10 generations. We also look at Wycliffe percentages and study pedigrees for known producers of genetic disorders. Breeding for health is a complicated science and at the same time a gamble.... Knowledge of the individual poodles in a pedigree and what they may have carried is also as important as the low COI. Also, we try to take part in any of the Universities Research projects to help them hopefully find marker genes and develop DNA tests for our serious genetic disorders..

Buyer Requirements for Our Standard Poodle Puppies

Trooper, age 11 and Calla age 9 are still here hoping for the right home together. They belonged to my friend out in Iowa who died from Cancer. Calla loves Trooper but does not like other dogs. They are very sweet poodles, full of love for people and I hope we will find that quiet, adult home with fenced yard and no other dogs for them.... Please Help!

When it comes to placing our puppies with their new families, we are careful to make certain that they are going to caring, responsible, knowledgeable and permanent homes. Someone must be at home to care for the puppy during the day, and we do not permit our puppies to be kept in crates for long periods of time - only for naps and night-time. Potential buyers are screened accordingly, and must visit our kennel in person so that we can meet them. We do not ship our puppies. We also require that potential new owners attend puppy obedience classes with their new addition and read books on our recommended reading list. We are always happy to provide new owners with advice and support, and encourage you to stay in touch with us after you take your puppy home. Our poodle prices are fair; we breed out of our love for poodles and our desire to improve the breed - not for capital gain. Our goal is to produce healthy, happy poodles that will live a long life. We feel that we owe this to the breed that we love so much and that has given us so many years of love and companionship in return.
